I remember my search for the perfect daycare in the summer and fall of 2001. I remembered my own daycare experience fondly and still see some of my old teacher to this day. Since I still live in the same area where I went to daycare, I assumed my son would go there as well.
Many months prior to the birth of my son, I arrived at my old daycare and paid my deposit fee , and signed my son up to be enrolled. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks later, I was told my son could not start at the center until February, and my son was to be born in October (and I was a full-time college student).
Now I was desperate. My son would soon be born and I didn't know where I would ever find a childcare center that would ever match the memories from my own daycare.
using the internet, I searched my options and set up tours. I saw a number of childcare centers throughout my search. One center I visited game me an undeniable case of the creeps as soon as I walked through the door. Another center I visited was nice, but the price was too high and the teachers too young. I was beginning to lose hope. I wanted my son to be safe, secure, and happy. I was beginning to think I would never find a place like that. On a last-ditch search on the Internet, I came upon a center located near NKU--Alphaland. I didn't expect much when I entered Alphaland soon after for a tour, but I was to be pleasantly surprised.
It was the infant room and teachers that struck me the most. In all the daycares I had toured, the infant room was confined ant the teachers very young. At Alphaland there was an open space to explore, and the staff seemed more mature, experienced, and many had children of their own. I felt immediately at ease. I brought my mother to the center for a second opinion, and her reaction was the same as mine--this is the perfect place for Thomas (my son).
A couple of other daycare centers I toured were fancier than Alphaland. Some of the buildings were newer, some of the toys shinier, but something important was missing in all of them. It wasn't until I walked into Alphaland that I felt truly comfortable with the environment and the staff.
My son has now been attending Alphaland for 2 years. As he's moved through the different age-level classes, the staff has always been caring and supportive. Everyone who works here seems to know his name and they take a personal interest in his well-being. And the selling point for me? My son yells out his teacher's names and reaches for them whenever he sees them. Sometimes I have even gotten a bit jealous of how much he cares for them, though in the end, I am just happy to know he feels loved and secure in their care.
If Thomas could put into words what he truly feels about Alphaland, he'd say it's his 'home away from home'.
Sincerely,
Kit
